The session leader this week is Alena Shuvalova, who is a jazz pianist and singer from Russia. Alena will open the evening with a mini-concert, presenting her new band Alena Shu Quartet.
Alena started her music career in Russia, where she obtained a bachelor's in jazz piano and worked extensively with orchestras and big bands. In addition, she has been actively engaged in singing and writing songs of her own. Alena is currently in her first year of the Master of Music program at Fontys, whilst simultaneously working on developing her music career in the Netherlands as a
pianist and singer.
The Alena Shu Quartet was formed this year, in collaboration with talented musicians from Fontys Academy of Music and Performing Arts: bass player Andrés Hühner, drummer Hein Stinesen, and saxophone player Donato Di Lorenzo. The band will debut on the Paradox stage with a repertoire consisting of arrangements of well-known tunes and Alena’s original songs with a touch of jazz, funk, and pop styles.
