Donato Di Lorenzo – Afterimages 5tet
The Afterimages 5tet is a contemporary jazz ensemble with ambient, electronic and cinematic influences. Born as a complete blank slate project between students of Fontys Academy of the Arts, the group focuses on original pieces by Donato and his interpretation of the contemporary jazz aesthetic, as well as the will to create an immersive live soundscape that stretches the traditional sound of a jazz 5tet and transports the listener to a new collective vision of a stylized and fictionalized reality. Ambient drones and pads, sound design elements, meditative recurring melodies and riffs combined with jazz harmony and extended forms that leave room for improvisation and individual expression from each of the band’s members are some of the defining characteristics of the sound we wish to bring on stage and enjoy playing.
