AUTARKH III is very pleased to announce their appearance at Roadburn Redux festival, April 16-18, Tilburg, The Netherlands. This trio consists of Autarkh-members David Luiten (vocals / guitars), Michel Nienhuis (vocals / guitars) and Tijnn Verbruggen (live electronics) and aims to represent an alternative timeline of Autarkh's debut album 'Form In Motion.'
Form In Motion moves from a confrontation with the limits of reality to a state of catharsis, self-government and independence through a process of growth and transformation; the timeline of AUTARKH III moves in the opposite direction but is also occurring in the present, in an attempt to counter the linearity of man’s perception of existence. The trio reinterpreted, rearranged and inverted their existing work and added a new composition inspired by the essay collection ‘Tijd van onbehagen’ by Dutch philosopher Ad Verbrugge, which also features glimpses back to Nienhuis’s former band Dodecahedron.
AUTARKH III focuses on ambient and drone atmospheres, alternated with sections that are leaning more towards improvisation and heavier down-tempo arrangements. Subtle glitches and dreamy atmospheres are countered with subcutaneous growly whispers and bursts of harmonic epiphanies, only to be brought down by the inevitable doom that the inverted timeline prescribes.
Michel comments: “This year’s unique edition of Roadburn provides us with an exceptionally fitting opportunity to show the two current faces of the Autarkh project: a metal band and a trio. The music of AUTARKH III is generally a more introverted circular recreation of the songs on Autarkh’s album Form In Motion and can be interpreted as an inverted timeline of the album. This performance is a collaboration with and recorded at Paradox venue in Tilburg. The fact that both Autarkh projects are being premiered at Roadburn Redux shows the wide range of possibilities that Roadburn continues to offer, and we’re glad to be a part of that.”
