Jorge Daniel Ruiz Peña (born March 3, 1993, in Cuba) is a versatile Cuban oboist and multi-instrumentalist whose artistic voice moves freely between classical music, jazz, and contemporary styles. Known for his expressive energy and technical precision, he brings a unique perspective to the oboe while also performing on English horn and tenor saxophone. He studied at the Esteban Salas Conservatory in Santiago de Cuba and later graduated from the University of the Arts (ISA) in Havana, where he began gaining recognition as a soloist. After performing with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba at the National Theatre in Havana, he was described as one of the most promising young musicians of his generation.
Ruiz later completed his master’s studies at the Conservatorium Tilburg in the Netherlands, where he is currently based. Alongside his classical career, he actively explores improvisation and has given workshops on jazz and improvisation for oboe at international events such as the Adams International Oboe Festival. He has performed across Europe and Latin America and collaborated with ensembles including the Leipziger Symphonieorchester in Germany and the Lyceum Orchestra of Havana, touring internationally with the Mozart y Mambo project.
Jorge is a member of the award-winning wind quintet Aires Tropicales, with which he has performed throughout Europe and recorded their debut album featuring music by Paquito D’Rivera. Alongside his classical work, Ruiz continues to develop a personal voice in jazz and improvisation, expanding the expressive possibilities of the oboe and saxophone on today’s international music scene.
Zelf muziek maken natuurlijk! De entree is geheel gratis.
